Practical information

Ketchikan is accessible by air from Seattle/Tacoma, Anchorage, and Juneau via Alaska Airlines. The Alaska Marine Highway provides ferry service from Bellingham, WA, Prince Rupert, BC, and Skagway, AK. There is no road access to Ketchikan or Prince of Wales Island.

Island Air Express flies from Ketchikan to Klawock Airport, which is ten miles (16 km.) from Craig. Pacific Airways and Taquan Air fly float planes from Ketchikan directly to the Craig harbor. Promech Air flies charters into Craig harbor.

The Inter-Island Ferry Authority runs ferries from Ketchikan to Hollis on Prince of Wales Island, which is 30 miles (48 km.) from Craig. A shuttle is available from Hollis to Craig; phone 907-401-1414.

You can save some time when you arrive on Prince of Wales Island by purchasing your fishing license in advance. Click here for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game site.

When you fill out the form:

  • Check the “non-resident” box, unless you live in Alaska
  • Set the start time for your first day for 4 AM, and the end time for you last day for 8 PM
  • If you plan on keeping a king (chinook) salmon, you must purchase a king salmon stamp.
  • Make sure you sign it.
