Amak off Noyes Island in S.E. Alaska

TUG AMAK offers self-guided, small ship cruises in Southeast Alaska coastal waters featuring photography, whale watching, birding, hiking & kayaking, and land & sea adventures as well as custom vacations, perfect for family trips, weddings and reunions.

Far from the crowds of conventional high-volume tourism, our personal approach offers a genuine and intimate encounter with Alaska. It’s an eco-friendly way to explore Alaska’s gorgeous and diverse marine environment. Because of its small size, our 65-foot historic yacht can sail into quiet coves and navigate ice-bound channels that larger boats must avoid, letting Discovery passengers get an up close and personal view of glaciers and wildlife that is simply not possible on a larger cruise ship.

Tug Amak is a skippered 100 year old vintage tugboat that has been painstakingly restored to its original condition. Guests fly to Ketchikan and then take a float plane directly to the Port Protection Marina.

Upon arrival in Port Protection, you are greeted by the ship’s captain. After the luggage is stowed on board, guests will have the opportunity to visit the local grocery store to buy provisions for their stay. A liquor store is also conveniently located for purchase of alcoholic beverages.

Once the provisions are loaded aboard, the tug will set sail for the barrier islands along the Pacific Coast. Your five to six hour journey will bring you to various protected anchorages among these islands.

Once anchored in a sheltered cove, Tug Amak will deploy its zodiac tender and sea kayaks. The tug will also be joined by a 17 foot Arima fishing charter complete with electronics and down riggers.

Enjoy the next several days experiencing the true Alaska wilderness. The uninhabited islands are home to majestic humpback whales, sea otters, seals, sea lions and eagles galore. The fishing is world class. The Chinook salmon is one of the world’s greatest fighting fish. Coho salmon will also show up in strong numbers by mid-summer and also will test your line.

Enjoy fresh seafood barbecued on the aft deck. Relax onboard with your favorite book while listening to your music. Tug Amak has a full galley, a marine head and shower, heat, hot water, bluetooth speakers and comfortable berths for your five day-four night stay. Put your group together and make your reservation now. Your deposit will hold your spot. Please be sure to book your reservations for your flight to Ketchikan and Port Protection after you have reserved your spot with Alaska Ocean Adventures.

All you need to bring are warm clothes, raingear, rubber boots, a sleeping bag, towels and a pillowcase. All fishing gear is available on board although you are always welcome to bring your favorite rod and reel. Cards and board games are also on board.
